内容記述 | In 1998, a new subject known as "Integrated Studies" was introduced into the trainingcurriculum as one of the compulsory subjects for obtaining a license as a kindergartenteacher. The research area of environmental education welcomed this addition, because thegoal of this subject partly corresponds with that of environmental education. However,"integrated studies" included in the kindergarten teacher-training course in junior colleges isalso a compulsory subject for acquiring the qualification of a nursery school teacher.Although the name of the subject is the same, the goal of "integrated studies" in thekindergarten teacher-training course differs from that in the nursery school teacher-trainingcourse; moreover, the latter does not require the inclusion of the contents on evironmentaleducation. In this light, I analyzed the syllabi gathered from 149 junior colleges (2-yearcourses) offering training courses for kindergarten teachers in 2002 with the aim of examiningand revealing how the subject "integrated studies" provided environmental education.The results revealed that in the subject "integrated studies," on the whole, 40% of the casesincluded content on environmantal education, while the remaining 60% did not. Therefore, injunior colleges, "integrated studies" does not function as a subject that also covers environmentaleducation, and the liberal arts subjects consequently assume a more important role inenvironmental education than in "integrated studies." | |||||
